Parsons School of Design's front entrance |
I am so incredibly lucky living in a world where we have such incredible schools particularly which specialize in the arts. The most famous ones seem to be Central St Martins in London, Juliard in the USA, FIDM in LA, NYFT in New York City, Parsons also in New York and RISD in Rhode Island. I did a course at Central St Martins two years ago and loved every minute. The london arts college's: csm, chelsea, wimbledon, camberwell, london college of fashion offer incredible courses such as life drawing, fashion design for beginners, illustration for beginners, photography etc. If anyone feels like taking a leap of faith and signing up for one of theese oppertunuities I stand firmly behind your impressive decission, some courses run for an intense week others last 8 weeks or so as an evening course. I did a fashion and styling course. I ran round London for a week taking photographs for a phot shoot titled Urban Warrior we focused on looking at rough fabrics combined with an african themed colour combination and intense make up. We also visited art exhibitions, vintage stores etc. Its not a place to meet boys though, there was only one poor soul in our class and I think he felt slightly out of place.
I have specifically chosen Parsons for me as I have grown up in London my entire life and feel its ready to make a change, start a new chapter and explore. I love New York City and have been lucky enough to visit it a couple of times, always feeling a sense of awe as I stroll through Soho, the meat packing district (my personal favorite spot), upper east, upper west and so on. I browse the online site practically every night learning a new interesting motive for me to pursue my dreams. Tonight I read the dean's message, Mr Joel Towers, his last paragraph made shivers roll up my spine, '
I strongly believe that it is an ideal time to study art and design and that Parsons provides a unique and deeply relevant context in which to do it. I hope you will join the talented, energetic, and creative students and faculty at Parsons. The future is always being designed. Come be part of it.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me.....below is a selection of students work.
You go girl! Ali, your natural sense of style will blossom anywhere. Lucky NY;-)
