Matthew Williamson and his use of color

Matthew Williamson has been one of my favorite designers over the past years of my fashion extravaganza obsession. His use of color, beading, sequins galore baffle me as so many collections have turned to minimalism. Anna Wintour has been on the flamboyant color side, she keeps us going along with the likes of Andre Leon Talley who yes...might over do the color from time to time.

Born in Manchester Williamson moved to London aged 17 to attend top art school central St Martins, graduating in 1994. His debut catwalk show was held at London fashion week 1997 titled 'ELECTRIC ANGELS' brilliant girls such as Kate, Jade Jagger, Helena Christinsan modeled (A picture of gorgeous Kate is shown left). This has got to be one of my favorite catwalks of all time the clothes look incredible but what I love most overall is the fact the show looks stress free fun. Being at the early stages of his career he couldn't afford endless make up artists, dressers etc so the famous girlies did a majority of it all themselves. There is a fabulous picture of Miss Moss painting her toenails in full ensemble backstage. After the incredible applause he received Williamson moved on to work with partner Joseph Velosa at Monsoon/Acseesorize, Emilio Pucci and his very own Matthew Williamson.

Sommerset House are holding a series of photographs of Williamson's work and memories of joyful times. There is NO ENTRANCE FEE! Such a rarity for London town nowadays. Its only little but I quite like that idea..I pondered around all by my lonesome and really got a feel for what his life as been like as an incredibly talented designer.

Above are Matthew's sketches from his spring summer 2010 and the final piece. Below is my own interpretation. I hope you like them.....
