I recently went to a concert with a girlfriend and
was amazed when she quickly showed me a few photos of her art work in the car.
I knew she was talented but when she announced the pieces were all completed in
one day I was shocked, it takes mze days..weeks...months to get one of my pieces
to look this good.
Currently enrolled at LCF (London College of
Fashion) was working on this particular project in her 3rd term of the second
year on BA (Hons) Fashion Illustration.
It was a Professional Brief Unit and a Charity
called Fine Cell Work came in to give a Brief before the project began
- website about charity: http://www.finecellwork.co.uk/
The objective was to create 6 designs for pillows,
taking inspiration from the word "Release" with out it being prison Cliché.
Bina began looking at words surrounding the word
release such as freedom, liberation...etc., researching images that symbolized
these meanings. the world and the eagle symbolize wild and free, the eye
represents the all - as well as the window to the soul, and in the picture with
the clock the representation is of the constant servileness the
prisoners are under and the constant servileness the prisoners have
on the clock. The clock was changed to roman numerals- to the scoring system,
prisoners used on the wall of their cell to count down the days. Bina said she
felt it appropriate as the clock represents time, and the prisoners are 'doing
time".
The images were drawn individually using graphite
pencil and then put into photoshop creating a different composition.
If she wins the competition the pillows will be
manufactured by Fine Cell Work who hope to sell the cushions in a High Street
store.
